Couples Counselling with me

Are you feeling overwhelmed by life's events and circumstances?

If so I'm here to help. As an experienced and compassionate counsellor, I'm dedicated to helping my clients find their voice and build trust within themselves and those around them.

It doesn't matter if you're single, married, living together, or identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community - I'm here to support you.

Together, we'll identify the issues you're facing and develop strategies to help you overcome them. I promise to listen to both of you equally without judgment and create a warm and supportive environment where you feel safe enough to talk openly and be heard.

Counselling is often seen as a last resort when things have become extremely challenging. However, it can also be beneficial in helping sort out minor issues or past hurts before they grow into something more significant.

If you're ready to make positive changes in your life and relationship, don't hesitate to contact me today.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Individual Counselling with me

Are you lacking confidence? Are you tired of feeling like you are not good enough or find yourself constantly second-guessing everything you do?

That's where I come in. I work with those struggling with feelings of low self-esteem. As a professional and passionate Counsellor, I have years of experience helping my clients become more confident, find their voice and start trusting themselves.

Together, we will identify the root cause of your lack of confidence and develop strategies to help you overcome it. I promise to listen to you without judgment and to create a warm, supportive, healing environment where you feel safe enough to be heard.

I have experience working with a wide range of people from a variety of different backgrounds and I will embrace and value the importance of these differences within the counselling session.

Try to remember that self-care is not selfish. It's essential for your well-being. I often use the “You can’t pour from an empty cup” metaphor with my clients. When thinking about what it means to fill our cup up, it’s not uncommon for my clients to feel these self-care activities are selfish. However, showing ourselves this self-compassion allows us to continue functioning on a day-to-day basis and can even help us to flourish.

By working with me, you'll develop your inner strength and self-resilience, so you can start trusting yourself and creating positive life changes.

Don't wait any longer to take the first step towards a more confident and self-assured you and contact me today.

My story

Hello and welcome! My name is Karena,

I know that life can be tough sometimes, and it's easy to feel alone. But I want you to know that you're not alone. I have struggled at times and know how hard it can be to reach out for help, but I did, and it had a profound effect on me and the direction of my life.

That's why I decided to leave my job as a Registered Nurse and retrain to become a Counsellor - to help others find their way back to themselves.

I work in an integrative way - which means 'many different approaches into one' but I have a foundation in a person-centred/ humanistic approach.  As such, I treat all my clients as individuals.

I promise to listen to you if you trust me with your thoughts, feelings, or experiences. I will never take sides, judge you, or treat you differently because of what you have been through. I will, however, help you find the solutions that I believe are within yourself.

So, if you're ready to take that first step towards a brighter future, contact me to find out more.

What will happen when I make an enquiry?

When I receive an enquiry, I will offer you an introductory phone call. We will talk about what you would like to achieve from our sessions. It's also a good time for you to ask questions or raise any concerns.

I will then send you an email containing a contract for you to read through and information on how to make payment.

How long will I need counselling?

The truthful answer is I don't know. Counselling is a personal journey that varies for everyone. As the sessions progress, I will check in with you and we can talk about the progress you feel you're making. Counselling isn't a quick fix but by working together I believe you can find happiness and inner peace.

Is it ok to feel so anxious about starting counselling?

Absolutely!

Most of my clients feel anxious and I don't blame them. It's a massive step to opening up and trusting someone with your innermost worries and feelings. Please try to remember the sessions are yours, we will always take things at your pace and if it feels too big, we can face it another time.

What if I want to finish counselling?

It's important you trust and connect with your counsellor. Not everyone is a good fit and it's ok to try counselling with someone else if you don't feel that connection with me. It may also be that you don't feel ready to start the process and that's ok too. Please remember, it's your journey and you are in control of when it happens and who walks it with you.

What is and isn't Confidential?

Everything you say in the sessions is confidential unless you mention the following
Drug trafficking,
money laundering
acts of terrorism.
If any of the above comes up in a session, I am required to notify the relevant authorities.
I will also break confidentiality if I believe that you or someone else, is in immediate danger from either yourself or someone else.

What are the start and end of a session like?

We will spend a few minutes having a general chat to help settle the nerves. Once we get into the session, you will have the opportunity to talk about anything that comes up for you.  I will be listening to what you are saying. At times I may ask a question to make sure I understand where you are ‘coming from". It might be more important that I stay quiet and give you the space you need. Please don't worry, there is no right or wrong way to "do Counselling"
As the session draws to a close, I will give you a prompt, that way there will be no abrupt finish. I will check in with you to ensure you are grounded and ok to continue with your day.

How will I feel after the session?

After the session, you may experience lots of different emotions. Counselling can be a difficult process and you may feel a little worse before you feel better.
You may also feel tired, the sessions can be draining, be kind to yourself and practice some self-care!!
